Details

This is the first time of my trip that I was traveling alone.

Here in a library in Broome is where I started to write down my diary which I’m using now to write this blog. 🙂

I stayed in this nice little city for a few days.

This first day alone, I went to Maccas (McDonald’s for the non-Aussies ^^) for dinner. It was the first time since the beginning of my trip that I ate somewhere else than in my van… ^^

The next morning, I went to a Bunnings store to buy a new water bottle and distilled water for Coconut. She was still doing very well. The only thing that I had to do from time to time, was to add some water for the cooling system.

In the evening, I went swimming in the ocean at Cable beach.

Beach in Broome

For the first time since almost the beginning, it started to rain a liiittle bit.

The next day, I started to have the feeling that I was wasting a bit my time here in Broome although I was working on my diary, but I felt like I should do something. So I decided to go a few kilometers back (direction Port Headland) to visit the Eighty Mile Beach that we skipped on our way to Broome with Yayoi. This “short” trip took me 3 days and more than 800km driving (round-trip). Distances are a bit different in Australia than Europe… xD

I drove for almost 200km that first evening and slept next to the road in a free rest area.

It can seem a bit boring. Same landscape for hundred of kilometers…
Road trains, pretty much the only thing that can be seen on the way 😉

I did the next 220km the following day. A bit boring…

But, as soon as I arrived at Eighty Mile Beach, my negative thoughts ran away quickly when I saw this beauty!

130km (80 miles) of tourists free sandy beach! And billiards of shells! A little paradise! This beach is actually very remote because the 2 nearest towns are Port Headland and Broome which are more than 300km away from here…

We can’t even see the end of this beach full of shells – Eighty Mile Beach

I installed myself in the nice campsite (a bit expensive though) next to the entrance of the beach. While I was cooking, the sunset was about to arrive, so I grabbed my camera and went to the beach!

I didn’t regret leaving my dinner (which wasn’t finished to cook ^^)…

Caravan which wasn’t that small at the campsite at Eighty Mile Beach. They are even pulling a little 4WD car in the back… ^^

The following day, I decided to try fishing for the first time with my brand new fishing line that I bought in Broome.

I was probably looking a bit funny with my chair, umbrella, bucket and fishing line in the middle of this huge beach while all others fishermen were there with 4WD cars and lots of fishing gear. 😀

First fishing attempt at Eighty Mile Beach
No comment…

Ok… My first fishing attempt was… Hmmm, how to say…

Fishing attempt at Eighty Mile Beach…

I actually didn’t catch anything. ^^

Another level of fishing… ^^

I was better at seashells catching than fish catching. ^^

Almost new moon

After sunset, I decided to drive direction Broome and slept in a rest area 60km further.

Met this little guy on the way 😀

Another amazing starry sky !

The following day was a boring 360km long and hot trip back to Broome!

Everyday hot. 40 degrees outside…

Back in Perth, I had installed this little fridge thermometer inside Coconut to have the in and outside temperature.

After a few hours driving, I finally arrived at Broome a bit before noon..

After that, I went to the famous Cable Beach to take a little free shower. When I was about to leave, a French guy came to me and we talked a little. We actually met each other in the campsite in Broome a few days before. He was about to quit Broome to go to Perth with 2 other travel mates.

The 2 following days, I started this blog 🙂 and wrote ads on different websites to find travel mates for the next part of my trip. I also went shopping, did a little bit of jogging on the beach and prepared my next trip to the top north of Australia: Darwin.

Watch my next post about my “lonely” but crazy trip in this wild and hostile outback from Broome to the top North of Australia, Darwin! What you’ll see: Lots of nothing, the biggest lake in Australia, me showering at the back of the van, a bush fire (!!!), waterfalls and kangaroos. 🙂
