The next morning, we did some more hikes and enjoyed swimming in the park. You’ll notice the weather: Always blue sky, very sunny and hot. This weather was going to be similar for the next 2 months!

We left Karijini National Park in the afternoon to join the Great Northern Highway and head to Port Headland. This highway is the place where I saw the longest road trains of my whole trip. 😀

Ok, sorry, I’ll stop with my photos and videos of road trains! xD

Really don’t know what Yayoi was doing! xD

We arrived at Port Headland when it was already dark and slept in a car park near the beach.

The petrol was getting more expensive. We used our spare tank and saved thus a lot of money. 😉

We stayed at Port Headland only one night and started our trip to Broome the next day.

We drove for about 440km and stopped at a campsite on the Great Northern Highway for the night. On the way, we tried to stop at the beach, but the roads going to the beach were either only for 4WD cars or too expensive to access.

The next day, we drove the last 240km to Broome, the final destination for Yayoi. We arrived at Broome as planned. Even a bit earlier. Perfect to see the staircase to the moon. Old Coconut was doing her job perfectly even though she had already done more than 400’000km in her life! 🙂

That evening, we saw the famous staircase to the moon, but it was a bit cloudy. 😉

The next day, we visited a bit more of Broome. Went to the market, visited the Japanese cemetery and other wonderful places.

Milky way at Broome

That evening, we saw the famous staircase to the moon again. It’s amazing to see it in real! This phenomena appears approximately every 30 days for 3-4 days around full moon time. At that time, the tide is extremely low and there are many little pools on the sand in which we can see the reflection of the moon as it goes up. That’s what gives us the illusion of a staircase.

The next day was the last for Yayoi. She took the plane to Japan from Broome airport as planned. We had a really good trip together. 🙂

A few minutes later, 2 other Japanese classmates (Sumire and Chïaki) came from Perth and landed at Broome to visit this little city. Chïaki would visit only Broome and Sumire would travel on the Gibb River Road with me. 🙂

Milky way with a shooting star at Gantheaume Point

We took photos of the milky way before the moon rise at Gantheaume Point. On that photo, something very weird appeared. There are a few lines that seam to start from the same point like shooting stars, but each line had something like a point at the start and another at the end…  If anyone has an idea what that could be… 😉

After 3 days visiting Broome, Chïaki went back to Perth as planned. We drooped her off at the airport.

Our crazy Gibb River Road trip was about to start! 😀 Read my next post. 😉
